LOVE LOVE LOVE this race!  It was so pretty!  Don't love the late start time, but it is a great course!  I ran with two of my buddies and I'm so grateful I did because they pushed me!  The first 6 miles I was just doing everything I could to keep up with them and then at about mile 8 I got a sudden burst of extra energy.  The last few miles of the race were harder because it was getting hot and it was flat but I still loved this 1/2 marathon!

I am new to this and don't know what I am doing so if people see this let me know if I am doing this right :)

I had a 6.5 miles recovery run at a 8:06 average pace.  I did the hobblecreek half marathon 3 days ago and my calves were a little tight but it felt good to run.

Blog looks good.

You wrote that you did 6.5 but entered 6.4 total in the boxes. No big deal .1 mile off.

Welcome to the site!

Hi Keri! You're blogging like a pro already! Nice job at the HobbleCreek half. Quite a few bloggers were there :)

So you were that cute girl right in front of me at Hobble Creek! Nice job with your PR. I'm sure you'll be breaking 3 hours soon :)

So this morning I did my regular 6-7 mile run with my running buddies.  Our average pace was 7:53.  After reading some other blogs I am feeling running inadequate :)  I never ever do speed work and I only run 3 times a week.  I do other forms of working out but I'm thinking if I want to step up my running game I might want to bump it up a bit?!?  Any suggestions?

I do the same thing too! We women know who to compare and find the negative in ourselves! From what I read you are doing great! Better then I... a newbie! I too want to do better at running and working out! You will get there! I hope I will too!

From runningafterbabies on Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 13:22:30 from 71.195.219.247

If you can run a 1:25 half without speed training and running 3x a week consider yourself lucky. You have the a natural ability to run fast without putting as much time into training as others. A lot of people on the blog run fast, but they have to work REALLY hard to get there. The only reason you should bump it up is if you were really determined to be hard core and bust out a 2:50 marathon :)

Ditto on the above comments. You have a great pace, so if you're happy with where you are, stick with it. It's tough trying to balance our athletic lives and family lives. I would imagine that's even truer for someone who has twins. :)

You are an amazing runner! Just keep on keepin on and do whatever you feel best about. Everyone is so different. I like to run high mileage for my sanity (mental health) but that is totally just me and I am definitely not as fast as you. Running higher mileage does not necessarily make you faster. :)

I finally did sprints!  I only did them for 30 minutes but I never do sprints so I felt good with that.  I stopped because my calves are still not fully recovered from hobblecreek.  They started cramping up so I stopped and hopped on the bike for 20 more minutes.  I don't know my exact pace but I sprinted every other minute and jogged in between sprints. (I just did them on the treadmill).  I think my sprints averaged between 5:45 and 7:00 minute miles.

Long run day.  The runners kept dropping like flys.  Started out running 3 miles by myself (to get my dog out) and then met 4 of my running buddies.  We averaged a 8:15 pace.  We started out with 5 girls and only 2 finished.  It was not a good day for most :)  With that being said, we finished our long run and that's always a good feeling.

Early morning...my husband had to catch an early flight and is gone for a couple days so I needed to get a run in.  I just did a 7 miler at an 8:05 average pace.  I ran in my new ALTRA's and LOVED them.  I'm still not completely used to the completely flat shoes but these actually felt good.  I will definitely start wearing these more.

Do you think you will wear your altra's for a marathon?

From Keri on Tue, Aug 30, 2011 at 15:56:43 from 67.166.74.247

Tara it's funny you ask because I've been debating it. I've only worn the shoes a few times. I love them but I'm nervous to wear them for a long fast distance. I think I am going to but I will see what happens with my training in the next few weeks. Do you run with Altras?

This is my favorite/ most challenging long run I do.  Myself and 3 other girls ran up and down Millcreek canyon.  We started at churchill jr high to make it 20 miles.  It was cold at the top!  I absolutely love running uphill, but I struggle with the downhill.  I'm just not that fast.  I guess I have a hard time opening.  Does anyone have an suggestions?

Did an 18 miler at 8:03 average pace.  It was nice to get it over with on friday this week.  My hubby had a race on saturday (suncrest half marathon---he took 4th overall!) so I couldn't do my run then.  I luckily have great running partners that were willing to go a day earlier and we went really early because I had to be back for my husband to go to work.  My legs were really tired the rest of the day!
